Workshop at Researchers’ Night: Life Behind the Numbers – Measuring Poverty in the EU and Hungary
Our research group’s leader, Annamária Tátrai, will hold a workshop at Researchers’ Night on September 26 at 4:30 PM.
How can we decide who counts as poor? What does the term “consumption unit” mean, and how is the median related to poverty measurement? Why can the same income represent very different living conditions in Hungary compared to other European countries? You will find answers to all these questions at this event. We will help you understand the logic behind the methodology while also highlighting the dilemmas and interpretative challenges that arise when examining Hungarian income statistics. In light of recent methodological errors, it is especially important and useful to understand how these methods work and what the data represent—so that we can all critically assess the statistics presented to us.
Our research group’s program presents, in an interactive format, how the European Union measures income poverty. Everyone interested is warmly welcome; registration is open until September 26.
If you would like to catch up on major recent developments in the field of poverty measurement before the workshop, we recommend exploring our group’s research projects on poverty and social inequality. Under the “Press Coverage” section, you can also find our latest articles on the topic.
